Lo Profile, Wardour Street, Soho

PolyLite edge lighting has dramatically changed the lighting in Wardour Street’s flagship Lo-Profile Night Club venue in London’s Soho.

With only 4 weeks to complete the order, Spanlite designed, produced, installed and finally programmed the 300 ultra-slim (17mm) DMX controlled RGB edge-lit light boxes which were mounted onto the ceilings and walls of the club. Along the 25m long entrance corridor leading to the bars and dance floor area, the light boxes have produced a tunnel of stunning rippling color and in the main bar and dance floor area, a subtle blend of vivid and fading colours, changing in sync to the music and matching the mood of the clubbers. Wireless DMX technology is used throughout to avoid the need for CAT5 cabling for connecting the light boxes back to the three DMX512 universes installed as part of the project.

The overall effect is a stunning mixture of saturated color and sound, controlled by DMX from a single console, allowing a choice of pre-programmed light shows, which can be instantly changed at the touch of a button to match the mood or theme of the moment.

  • Cannon Bridge House, London

Feature light wall in reception area of Cannon Bridge House, Dowgate Hill, London.

Constructed within one of the 6m tall x 7m wide railway arches underneath Cannon Bridge station, the design used 64 off 2m wide x 10mm thick PolyLite glass louvre blades set at 55 degrees within a purpose designed profile.

Each of the 64 blades are edge-lit using hi-brightness RGB led's set against the inside edge of each louvre. Illuminating the complete wall in colour cycling mode requires less power to operate than a domestic electric kettle. Operating in a single DMX 512 universe, the colours of the wall are conrolled via a switch plate on the reception desk.

  • Westfield Shopping Centre, Shepherd's Bush

Spanlite were asked to design and build a feature light-wall to surround a set of lifts in the 'Cafe Court' area of Westfield Shopping Centre.

Using printed edge-lit glass in conjunction with LED's the result was an eye catching installation occupying approximately 200 square metres of wall space over 2 floors.

    Illuminated workstation for Steelcase Environments

Steelcase workstation - SpanLite supplied the LED integrated light panels and DMX control recently installed at the new HQ offices of PWC in Dublin. The light panels are programmed by DMX to change colour throughout the day and night to create dynamic or relaxing working moods. Ground floor panels face outwards to add colours to the Dublin nightime cityscape.

    Willoughby Road, Hampstead

Creative glass designer Mehbs Yaqub’s creation for the entrance lobby at the London home of a leading film producer.

Comprising 3 x 30mm deep mitred SpanLite Lightstikk frames, each with DMX controlled RGB LED’s up the long edges, edge-lighting 3 separate 8mm PolyLite panels, with Mehbs' unique glass creation placed directly in front.

These images only give a snapshot of what designers can achieve using SpanLite’s ultra-slim PolyLite sheet with DMX controlled RGB LED lighting.

    Regents Place Atrium, Sydney

An imaginative use of Spanlite's Polylite illuminated glass was developed for the columns above the lifts in the atrium for the Regents Place development in Sydney, Australia.

LED lit PolyLite glass was used for the lift walls as well as for the columns in the atrium. PolyLite acrylic was also used for the signage panels adjacent to the lifts on each floor level.

British Design Council "Great Expectations" World Showcase of British Design

SpanLite supplied the edge-lighting technology together with lighting for the British Design Council's "Great Expectations" World Tour which visited major cities around the globe promoting the best in British Design.

The photograph shows the table displayed in New York, which when fully assembled measures a mind boggling 50 metres x 3.5m width, with the illuminated  table top components being just 10mm thick.

To give an idea of perspective the dark object at the front  is a full size Grand Prix racing engine and the chairs are 2 x actual size.

    MaasBrug, Venlo, Holland

POLYLITE-GLASS was specified for the 450 metres length of walkways on both sides of the restored Maas River crossing at Venlo, Netherlands.

The creative design, only made possible with PolyLite technology, was conceived and installed by partners Lagotronics BV of Venlo, the brige being  re-opened by HM Queen Beatrix in May 2007.

The 244 no 1.8m wide x 1.2m tall laminated PolyLite-Glass panels are impact resistant, provide floor level lighting for pedestrians and cyclists and the subtle masking of the design in the PolyLite pattern has created a unique illuminated sculpture for users of the bridge and river traffic to enjoy.

Overall power consumption of the LED's is just 2750w with a life expectancy of up to 10 years before any maintenance being needed, meaning real carbon reductions will  have been achieved through good design.

Wellcome Foundation Exhibit at the British Museum

Edge-lit PolyLite panels were used to under light the "Cradle to the Grave" exhibit in the British Museum, sponsored by the Wellcome Foundation to  display all the pills we might expect to take in our lifetime.

The display used 1m wide x 1.8m span 10mm thick PolyLite acrylic with T5 lighting each side to create a cool, evenly lit surface to display the heat sensitive display on.
